Welcome to Westport, Washington charter boat fishing headquarters! Ocean Sportfishing Charters is YOUR destination for sea bass, ling cod, halibut, salmon day trips and one- to three-day, live-bait albacore tuna trips on the beautiful Washington coast. We are just a short 2-1/2 hour drive from Seattle, and 4-1/2 hours from British Columbia, Canada.
The 2016 season has now come to an end. Thanks for fishing with us this year! We hope you had as much fun as we did. We are already taking reservations for the 2017 Westport fishing season. Start making your plans now!
Even though we aren’t fishing for a few months, there’s still plenty to do down here at the coast. We will be keeping the office open seven days a week during the winter months. If you’re in town clamming (follow this link: Grays Harbor Clam Digs), crabbing (we can rent you all the gear for 10$. Here’s more information: Westport Marina Crabbing) or storm watching (it gets pretty wild some days…follow this link for a five-day forecast: Westport Ocean Weather), come on by and say hello and grab a cup of coffee. We’re open 10am-4pm most days; the phone is always forwarded: 360-268-1000.
Don’t forget to make plans now for the Washington Sportsmen’s Show. Stop by our booth in the main building by the food court. The 2017 show will run January 25-29. Check out their link: 2017 Sportsmen’s Show.
Our 2017 season will start with the ling cod opener, on Saturday, March 11th. Plans for the 2017 Westport Halibut fishing season are currently underway. Most likely, we’ll be fishing on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The opener will be Tuesday, May 2nd. Plan on giving us a call next year, in January or February, to make sure you don’t miss out on this exciting day of fishing.
Did you see all of our cool T-shirts we started making last summer? Well, they were so popular, Captain Don started a separate business. Forget to buy that shirt you thought was so funny? No problem! We’ll mail it to you! Check out the website: Big Fish T-shirts in Westport
Westport Washington lands more albacore tuna than any other port on the Pacific coast. We start the albacore season in July. We’re working on the tuna schedule now and will post the schedule as soon as it’s available.

Check our Facebook Page for up-to-date news. We ensure that our customer’s charter fishing trip meets or exceeds  expectations because we can accommodate many different kinds of requests and have several boats to select from.On our sport fishing trips, we target various species of fish including Albacore Tuna, Rockfish, Lingcod, Halibut, Coho (aka Silvers) and Chinook (aka Kings). Regardless if you are novice or experienced anglers, you will be challenged by every fish!

The opening day for salmon fishing is set by the state Fisheries Department; we’ll post details when we get them, in April 2017.  We’re hearing that the Chinook numbers are again going to be very good!
Coho is another excellent sport fishing which gets going good by mid-June and continues on into August and September. Our salmon fishing here is great! Westport is nicknamed “The Salmon Capital of the World!”

Fighting a King is one of the ultimate tests for any angler. These fish are fast and big. Fish topping 40-lbs are not uncommon. They will rip line from your spool, challenge your strength, and take you on a journey around the boat multiple times before you have a chance to land them.

Silvers might not get as big as kings, but what they lack in size, they more than make up for in dogged tenacity. Get one of these fish on your pole and you will see acrobatics, speed, and power. Fishing for Silvers and Kings usually require anglers to practice a mooching technique that gives you complete control over hooking and fighting your own fish. Mooching is done by lowering your bait to a desired depth, and then fishing the water column as you reel back up.

Obviously, fishing in Westport for salmon can be non-stop, exciting, and result in plenty of fillets for the freezer. When you take one of our salmon fishing trips, our captains and courteous deckhands will give you a full rundown on how to hook and land your fish, and will do everything they can to make sure everything possible is being done to ensure your fishing experience is of the highest quality.

Bottom fishing is just plain fun! We recommend a bottom fishing trip as a great “first time on the ocean” trip: catching rockfish and lings doesn’t involve a lot of skill, and they’re fairly easy to catch. This kind of fishing is ideal for anybody who simply wants to enjoy some exciting fishing action and some great tasting fish to take home, especially kids, novice anglers and groups. Lingcod can place a considerable amount of strain on a fishing rod and weigh as much as 40-lbs. Rockfish usually weigh between 1- to 8-lbs.

Bringing up two fish at a time is always exciting! Your limit per person is 10 rockfish: that’s a lot of fish tacos and fish ‘n chips!

Fishing for Halibut starts the first Tuesday in May next year. These fish can weigh as much as 150-lbs. We use heavy duty line and gear and fish in an area about 600-800 feet deep.

Our Halibut trips may include large Black Cod, Rockfish, or Lingcod. These are all considered bonus fish and our customers are always surprised every time they reel one of these additional fish into the boat.

This season is very short. If you haven’t booked by March, chances are slim to get on a boat!

At Ocean Sportfishing, we start our albacore fishing season in mid July. We encourage our customers to try tuna fishing if they have never done so before. The coast of Washington offers some of the most exciting tuna fishing found anywhere in the world! Most of our customers simply haven’t tried tuna fishing because they mistakenly believe that it is necessary to travel to the tropics to catch one of the fastest fish in the ocean. A 2- or 3-Day fishing trip for tuna will provide the best fishing experience of a lifetime.

In addition to there being a considerable number of albacore tuna, they usually weigh between 15- and 45-lbs. Usually, our customers who have never fished for albacore tuna believe that they have hooked a much larger fish when they first hook one.
